DIY Bathtub Polisher: Non Toxic Ingredients for a sparkling clean bathroom

This homemade bathtub polisher recipe is a non-toxic but effective homemade cleaner that really gets the tub sparkling clean. I love how easy it is to make with just a few ingredients.

When I realized that most household cleansers contained toxic ingredients, I was determined to find other cleaning alternatives. I like the fact that I can easily whip up a batch when needed and the ingredients are common household items that are also easy to find. When you make your own cleaning solutions, it’s also easier to understand exactly what each product contains, verses trying to understand the long list of ingredients in many of the common brands.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup Castile Soap or Sal Suds
  • 1 tablespoon hydrogen peroxide (you can substitute 1 tablespoon of distilled water)
  • 1/4 teaspoon tea tree oil (You can also substitute a favorite essential oil of your choice)
  • 1 jar with lid

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Mix baking soda and liquid soap in a medium-sized glass container until it forms a paste-like consistency.
  2.  Add tea tree oil or essential oils of your choice.
  3. Spoon the scrub cleaner in a large jar with a lid. Seal the jar. This cleaner will harden when exposed to air for a prolonged period of time. The scrub cleaner can be used immediately and kept at room temperature (in a sealed jar) for several months.
  4. Use the polishing paste all over your tub for a sparkling clean tub.

HOW TO PREVENT THE DREADED SOAP SCUM

TIP: Prevent soap scum from forming in your tub by taking a relaxing bath and sprinkle Epsom Salts into your bath water, which makes soap residue go down the drain instead of sticking on surfaces.
